A New African Exploration GIS

The EFA Project has been undertaken by friends and associates of the late Edward G. Purdy as a memorial to the life and achievements of this remarkable geologist. The aim of the project is to update his Exploration Fabric and Basins maps of Africa and to build a new GIS from the updated information. The updated maps will be published by the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. Digital output will include an interactive internet-based map, together with Google Earth versions and PDF files. Final completion of the project will be in March 2012.

The project has been generously sponsored by a number of oil and gas companies. The contributors have given their time at no cost and a donation from profits was made to Ed and Christine’s charity AFRICA NOW. The EFA Team have recently started an Academic Associate scheme which will provide the project at no cost to sponsor-nominated African universities.
